Preston Hartzog was 1997 US Armed Forces gold medalist in the superheavyweight division. He won the gold medal at Camp Lejuene, North Carolina. The event was held between February 9th and 14th in 1997.[20] Hartzog was also a silver medalist at the 1998 US Armed Forces Championship. He won a silver medal at the prestigious Military World Games in Croatia in 1999.[34]
Hartzog was in the federally funded U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program in 1999. Toney held the International Boxing Federation (IBF) middleweight world championship in 1991, the IBF super middleweight world championship in 1993, and the IBF cruiserweight world championship in 2003. Toney challenged for the World Boxing Association heavyweight world championship against John Ruiz in 2004.

Hartzog competed as a professional boxer from 2001 to 2005 finishing with a record of 15-1-1 (4 ko's).
His one loss was by decision to Willie Chapman at the The Orleans in Las Vegas, Nevada. Chapman ko'd DaVarryl Williamson in 2000. Hartzog defeated Mika Gergen at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino in 2005.
He was only stopped once in the course of the action in his boxing career, by Matthew O'Neil in a USA Boxing sanctioned match in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Matthew O'Neil vs. Preston Hartzog was covered by the websites maxboxing and newslocker.[6] Hartzog defeated Wesley Correira in a MMA bout on November 14, 2000. Correira holds wins over Eric Esch and Tank Abbott. Tank Abbott was used a springboard for the career of Kimbo Slice.[28]

James Toney defeated Evander Holyfield in 2003 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.[30] Holyfield was only stopped twice in the course of the action in his professional boxing career.
Holyfield won the WBC/WBA/IBF/lineal heavyweight world championship in 1990 by beating Buster Douglas. He lost the title to Riddick Bowe in 1992. Holyfield regained the lineal heavyweight world championship in 1993 by defeating Riddick Bowe. Toney had a draw with Hasim Rahman in 2006. Rahman won and lost the lineal heavyweight world championship to Lennox Lewis in 2001. In the last one hundred years there has only been thirty one lineal world heavyweight champions.

Toney competed in a mixed martial arts fight against Randy Couture at UFC 118 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Toney lost by submission. Toney was managed in the latter part of his career by John Arthur.
Hartzog died in 2006. Toney competed for the last time in a boxing ring in 2017 when he defeated Mike Sheppard for the WBF heavyweight title.
O'Neil was on The Grueling Truth and AkHi TV in 2020. He is the only person to conclusively stop Hartzog at the amateur or professional level. O'Neil ran for Clark County Commission against Rory Reid in 2006. O'Neil was on the Fight News Unlimited Combat Sports Show with Rich Bergeron in June 2020 in which he spoke about his USA Boxing sanctioned match with Hartzog. Rich Bergeron is a former reporter for the New England based newspaper The Patriot Ledger. O'Neil's biological son is Dan Marshall. Dan Marshall and his mother, Patricia Marshall, reside in Ontario, Canada.

O'Neil still possesses knockout force and he has the capacity to make it through rounds. O'Neil has worked in business and for Havard university. In 2006, Rory Reid spent 1 million dollars against him when he ran for Clark County Commission in Nevada. O'Neil is hopeful that his training system can produce one final victory.[38]
