Practice Makes Paper

Practice Makes Paper

Practice Makes Paper is the 28th studio album by American rapper E-40 and the second installment from the Definitions trilogy. It was released on July 26, 2019 by Sick Wid It Records.[1]

History, Release And Reception

In August of 2018, E-40 announced that he would be releasing three consecutive albums as part of his Definitions trilogy: The Gift of Gab, Rule of Thumb and Practice Makes Paper. However, Practice Makes Paper was pushed back until February of 2019 and wasn't actually released until July 26, 2019. Practice Makes Paper is E-40's 28th studio album and contains 26 tracks. [1][2]

The album art features a cartoonish representation of E-40 wearing a beanie and sunglasses, gracing a custom $40 dollar bill. Practice Makes Paper is a monumental collaborative effort, enlisting 23 producers and 38 features. E-40 only has three tracks where he raps alone: "I'm It", "In The Struggle", "Imma Find Out". The whole thing took 8 months to complete.[1][3]

E-40's favorite song on the album is "Bet You Didn't Know", a song whose lyrics got him a shoutout in Vanity Fair. He said: [3][5]

"One song that means the most to me is a song that my son Moshpit dude produced called "Bet You Didn’t Know" because there’s never been a song like that.

It’s dropping gems.

It’s dropping street knowledge, straight knowledge period.

It’s telling you things you didn’t know.

Even people who are older, things they didn’t even know.

Like the fact that $14 a month will get you basic life insurance. Or oatmeal scrapes the plaque off of your arteries, small things like that. Then, I dropped some biblical stuff like David killed Goliath with a slingshot."

The album was generally praised by critics who said E-40 was "free-flowing, wise, hilarious, and unstoppable", and that "even though there are dozens of producers on the album, the album is remarkably consistent."[4][6]
