In June 2011, after his junior year of college, he came back to Seattle and attended a Startup Weekend event at Amazon's headquarters. Initially, he wanted to pitch the idea of a beer heatmap, where users could find the cheapest beer near them. However, no one was interested in participating in the project. [3]

While at Startup Weekend, he heard a venture capitalist named Greg Gottesman pitch the idea of building "an Airbnb for dogs." The person who pitched the idea talked about how a he took his dog to a kennel and, after picking up his dog, she had kennel cough and was miserable. Ever since, the entrepreneur had been taking her to his neighbors' houses. [3]

As a result, the presenter discussed the idea of creating an online space where people could connect with pet sitters and animal lovers who would be willing to take care of their pets while the owner was away. Kimmey introduced himself to Gottesman and told him that he thinks he can build the platform he was looking for. [3]
