In 2016, Peter Boykin founded the Gays for Trump organization which gained national attention as it solicited support from gay Americans for then-dark horse candidate Donald Trump through widespread social media messaging and outreach. [undefined]
Gays for Trump has also organized events, like the “WAKE UP!” party at the 2016 Republican National Convention to celebrate President Donald Trump’s nomination as the Republican Party candidate. In attendance were prominent Far-right figures, such as white supremacist Richard Spencer and former Breitbart News editor and right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos. [undefined] Boykin also planned and hosted the "Gay" Deploraball Presidential Inauguration event in Maryland on the night of President Trumps Inauguration which was covered by many media outlets. The group remains active by hosting and participating in Pride and Pro-Trump marches in North Carolina and Washington, D.C.. It maintains a public Facebook page and a private Facebook group, where nearly 2,400 members bond over their identity of advocating gay rights and backing President Trump’s agenda. [undefined]
After Trump became president, Boykin began hosting the MAGA First News radio show on the Pro-Trump news and commentary website, MAGA One Radio.
In February 2018, Boykin announced that he was running for North Carolina House of Representatives to represent District 58. After advancing from the primary on May 8, 2018 and receiving the backing of the North Carolina Republican Party he lost in the general election on November 6, 2018 to the North Carolina Democratic Party candidate, Amos Quick. Boykin was featured in The Daily Beast for his controversial support of Donald Trump's ban on transgender people serving in the United States Armed Forces. In an interview with The Daily Beast he said that transgender soldiers are “mentally challenged” and too expensive for the military. He also said, “People already have enough problems with PTSD, I don’t think it’s a good idea to give someone going through that type of change a weapon. They might snap and turn it on their fellow soldiers.” [1]
