Peter Attia
Peter Attia, M.D., is a physician, health speaker, and nutrition researcher. He is the founder of Attia Medical, PC, a medical practice focusing on the applied science of longevity and optimal performance. His practice applies nutrition science, lipidology, four-system endocrinology, sleep physiology, stress management, and exercise physiology to minimize the risk of chronic disease onset, while simultaneously improving one's human longevity.
Attia Medical, PC, has offices in San Diego and New York City.
Biography
Early Life & Education
Peter Attia was raised in Toronto, Ontario. In high school, Peter Attia planned to be a professional boxer. He trained for six hours a day, tracking his progress on a daily basis.
Dr. Peter Attia graduated from the Stanford University School of Medicine in 2001. Before that, he earned his Bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from Queen's University in 1996.
From June 2001 until July 2006, Dr. Attia was a surgical resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In between that time period - from 2003 to 2005 - he was also a surgical oncology fellow at the National Institutes of Health's National Cancer Institute. During his fellowship years, his research focused on immunotherapies for melanoma.
Career
Eating Habits (Nutrition Blog)
Early in his career, Dr. Attia started as a weekly email to a handful of friends, writing about nutrition; he later expanded to other topics, such as lipidology. His email list grew into a substantially longer list of friends, which eventually expanded his network to friends of friends and complete strangers. By late 2011, he decided to start putting his emails into long format and posting them as blog posts. He eventually started a website called Eating Academy, which now redirects to his personal website: Peter Attia MD.
Nutrition Science Initiative (NuSI)
In January 2012, Attia co-founded the Nutrition Science Initiative, a nonprofit which facilitates and funds experimental research in nutrition science; their aims is to reduce the social and economic burdens of obesity, diabetes, and their related diseases.
Peter Attia resigned from his position of President in December 2015.
Attia Medical, PC
On July 2014, Dr. Peter Attia opened his first medical practice: Attia Medical, PC. With a focus on the applied science of longevity and optimal performance, Dr. Attia aims to minimize the risk of chronic diseases and improving one's lifespan. He does this in various ways, using elements of nutrition science, lipidology, four-system endocrinology, sleep physiology, stress management, and exercise physiology.
