McDonald's Incident
The moment when Pedro realizes the woman became unconscious as she drives by.
On Tuesday morning, March 14th, 2017, as an off-duty Miami Dade Police officer was ready to get her order from the McDonald's drive-thru window from Pedro, she began to have a medical emergency. The car she was in just rolled through and did not stop at the window to get her food. She had her kids inside the car as they begin screaming, "Mother, Mother, stop it what are you doing!?’" As the car passed by the window, Pedro quickly noticed that something was wrong. He jumped out of the window and chased the car down, running as fast as he could, in an attempt to halt it from entering incoming street traffic. He told the kids inside the car to call 911 as he helped attend the unconscious woman.
After stopping the car, and seeing the woman was unresponsive, Pedro rushed back inside to get help.
Fortunately, an off-duty firefighter was present inside and was able to assist Pedro with the woman. Another customer, a paramedic, jumped out of the car to assist the woman too. While an ambulance, fire rescue, and police were on their way, Pedro stayed with the kids providing emotional support as they waited for their arrival.
Due to the extreme circumstances, Pedro is now revered as a Good Samaritan, but also a hero for never hesitating to save the woman. The owner of the M's Pedro works has offered the following statement:
“First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the officer and her family during this difficult time.
I think I speak for our McDonald’s family when I say how proud we are of Pedro.
He is an excellent employee, so it didn’t surprise me that he took immediate action and jumped through a window to help save this woman.
And he was not the only member of the team that played a pivotal role in ensuring she received the medical attention she needed.
A second employee, who asked to remain unnamed, assisted with CPR.
Their quick thinking and action were everything in that moment.”
Viloria said the first responders performed CPR on the woman, and with the use of an automated external defibrillator machine brought by a Doral police officer, they were able to revive the woman.
At the moment, the woman is in critical condition at the hospital.
