Otera Bibi was a 42-year-old mentally ill woman from India. ^[2]

Bibi had been living with her parents in West Bengal, India at the time of her death. ^[2]

In late June 2017, a video of Bibi went viral on social media in which she was beaten, lynched and beat to death by local villagers after she was accused of snatching a child in West Bengal. ^{[3] [2]}

An angered mob then pounced on Bibi and tied her to a tractor. ^[3]She was attacked by villagers for three hours with sticks and pelted with stones. ^[3]

The locals also ripped off her clothes and shaved her head as they continued to beat her to death.
