Omar started his career in 1997 as a Senior/Lead Engineer at Jonhson Space Center. In 2004, he joined NASA as a NSE-Subsystem Manager. Later, he held the positions of Advanced Development Manager, Technology Relationship Manager and Deputy Chief Scientist at NASA. In 2016, he became the Executive Director of Space Studies Program at International Space University. Since 2015, Omar has been the Chief Innovation Officer of Engineering JSC at NASA .
Omar graduated from the University of Jordan with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He holds Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the California State University, Sacramento and North Carolina State University. He also received a Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical engineering from University of South Carolina.
