Okills (Venezuelan Band)

Okills (Venezuelan Band)

"Okills" [1] is a band from Caracas. Founded on September 11th last year, they unite genres like rock, indie and fest into one, resulting in a unique and distinguishable mix.

They released their first single "Querido Loco" and since then they have performed live in the capital of our country.

This song has been positioned in recent weeks in several of the country's Billboard s.

History and trajectory

Another band builds their story from a distance: they start when the plane takes off for a destination chosen by advice and learn to trade some problems for others.

It is not easy for them and it is no less complicated, because of all the achievements they have left behind.

Being far from their country, from home, is an act of courage, a ton of effort, a little detachment and a lot of will.

Okills[2] left Venezuela for Mexico, due to the difficulties the country is going through; they had to start from scratch after five years of acts and recognitions.

"We left Venezuela with a four or five-year career and when we arrived in Mexico we realized that we had to start from scratch," Kevin Yousef, the group's bassist, told El Nacional Web exclusively.

"The first few months were very difficult, we had just come back from a tour in Venezuela, and it was hard that our first concert in Mexico was only attended by five people," he added.

The sacrifice was not in vain.

So far this year, the group has had the opportunity to play and share the stage with groups like Incubus, Leon Larregui, Mon Laferte, in addition to a number of concerts in Mexico. On their return to the music scene they presented their new single "007", which they describe as a tropical rhythm with a Mexican vibe. "007" was the song with which they wanted to experiment with electronic rhythm, under the production of Colombian singer Juanes and Tainy, who has collaborated with Daddy Yankee and Jennifer Lopez.

"We do not like to stay in the same sound, we always like to experiment, we are not absent from new movements, such as urban and Latin music, so we wanted to join electronic elements that we had never tried, along with Tainy and Juanes; with them you realize why they have so many years in the industry, with all the experience they have on top, the song was flowing, and in the end 007 came out," explained Yousef.

The group maintains that Mexico is a country open to new cultures.

Although every fan has its charm, they say they have many Mexican fans, more than Venezuelans.

In September 2012, the quintet formed by Alberto Arcas, Carlos García, El Kmarón, Kevin Yousef and Tony Alda, presented their website www.okills.com and with audiovisual material prior to the release of their EP, "Iniciando Transmisión" which was launched through their website in digital format on September 30 and recently released their first video clip featuring the first single "Si Me Ves". More art, Less bullets

The Venezuelan group has been influenced by the Mexican environment, without forgetting their Creole roots, something that they wanted to capture in their single; but also in the audiovisual piece that was recorded in the border city Ciudad Juárez.

The region is known for the violence that was experienced there from 2006 to 2010, so for about eight years a group of young people has taken on the task of taking over the city and filling it with new art, with which they hope to change the negative image that Ciudad Juárez has had since that violent period.

The idea was to fill all the walls of the city with color, especially in the abandoned colonies that suffered the exodus of their inhabitants.

The band had the opportunity to record in this town and meet the children who made some murals to recover the area.

"People in the city are not used to having artists come and record, so we were very excited to meet the children; they were excited that the murals were in the video," said Kevin Yourself.[6][7]

Members

They includes, Alberto Arcas (vocals, guitar), Leonardo “El Kmarón” Jaramillo (guitar), Carlos J. García (guitar), Kevin Yousef (bass), Tony Alda (drums, 2010-14), Alejandro Bautista (drums, 2014-present).[4]

About

The alternative band is not new to covering traditional songs with their own twist, and they have said Díaz was one of their main musical influences.

The band recorded the track back in June 2017 but decided to wait until now to release the song in memoriam of Díaz and his legacy.

Venezuelan rock-pop band Okills paid tribute to Díaz by uploading a cover of one of his signature anthems, "Mi Querencia."[5]
