On July 26, 2017, one man died and seven others were injured when an amusement ride at the Ohio State Fair malfunctioned Wednesday evening on the fair’s opening day. ^{[1] [0] [5]}

One man was thrown high into the air and landed on the ground about 50 feet from the ride.

He was killed on impact.

Three of the injured were taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where two are in critical condition and one in stable condition.

The Fire Ball, manufactured by KMG, is billed as an aggressive thrill ride that swings riders 40 feet above the ground while spinning them at 13 revolutions per minute.

The ride, which holds 24 passengers, operates like a pendulum and it was on a downward motion swinging back up into the air when the ride apparently malfunctioned, throwing some riders into the air. ^{[1] [5] [0]}
