On the morning of November 6th, Officer Brotherson was setting up tire spikes to stop a stolen silver BMW coupe with a Florida that had been reported earlier in the night. It was at 3:30 a.m when the stolen vehicle struck him near 2200 West, flinging him 50 feet from the initial collision. He died at the scene. ^[1]

Brotherson was the first officer to die in the line of duty since the department formed in 1980.

The suspects, all under the age of 18, were found and taken into custody.
