Officer Brent Thompson was a police officer for Dallas Area Rapid Transit. He is a graduate of Navarro College. Officer Thompson had previously worked as an international police trainer who mentored Iraqi and Afghan police.
Career
Officer Thompson worked as a police officer for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) from 2009 until his death. He patrolled the Northwest sector for the DART systems. This area includes Lewisville, Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Irving; and Dallas, Texas.
From 2004-2008, Officer Thompson worked as an International Police Liaison Officer for the private military contractor DynCorp. As an International Police Liason Officer, Officer Thompson worked as the Chief of Operations for Southern Iraq. Officer Thompson was responsible for the day to day operations conducted by American police officers who trained and mentored the Iraqi Police. While an International Police Liaison Officer he also trained police in Afghanistan. In both countries Officer Thompson mentored and taught Iraqi/Afghan police democratic policing, and assisted in the establishment of the police departments in those countries.
Officer Thompson had taught at the Navarro Police Academy from 2001-2004.
Courses he taught included Basic SWAT School, Tactical Firearms, Active Shooter, and Urban Rifle.
Death
On July 7, 2016 Officer Brent Thompson was one of the five police officers killed by snipers in the 2016 Dallas Police Protest Shooting. Officer Thompson was the first Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer to ever be killed in the line of duty. [1]
