Not Reaching was created by Jackie and Wayne Carter in 2017. After seeing the death of Philando Castile aired on television, they felt a responsibility to try and do something. They came up with a prototype for a vehicle identification pouch that holds your driver's license, insurance card, and registration safely attached to the car's air vents in plain sight.
The invention makes traffic stops safer because it eliminates the act of reaching, an often innocent action that can escalate a situation. The pouch sells for $9.99 (even though they are often distributed for free) and Jackie will be pitching her invention on Shark Tank, asking for $300,000 in exchange for a 15% stake in the company.
Jackie also founded the Alliance for Safe Traffic Stops, an organization dedicated to deescalating traffic stop situations through education, awareness, and proper training. The organization partnered with Astral AR, a company that utilizes drone technology to deescalate traffic stop violence. You can donate to their GoFundMe page and help them reach their $50,000 goal.
