Noob (or n00b) is slang meaning "newbie".^[1] It is popularly used in online gaming communities by more experienced players when they want to refer to novice players or selfish or ignorant players. It can be quite offensive when used to designate a person with no ability to win the game because it acquires the meaning of imbecile or dumb.

This slang is used especially in games, however, the term noob with pejorative meaning has been used among adolescents in everyday situations, serving to describe a person without intelligence or common sense.

Noob is different from newb (or newbie) which means “apprentice” or “inexperienced” by designating a beginner in an activity or profession.

It is someone who can make mistakes for not knowing how to perform a certain task, but the goal is to learn and evolve.

This person usually makes use of an instruction manual or receives guidance.

A noob is an individual who has no desire to learn, and who expects people to do their work to receive their laurels.

In online gaming communities, there is a distinction between noob (incapable, loser, and selfish individual) and newb (individual who, despite being new to the game, respects the experienced and learns easily).
