Nishan Degnarain

Nishan Degnarain is passionate about African development.

He took a sabbatical from McKinsey & Company to return to Mauritius and work with the government on a country transformation programme.

He is currently Senior Economic Adviser to the Minister of Finance and Economic Development of Mauritius and to the Vice-Prime Minister of Mauritius.

Since his return in 2011, he has been involved in several aspects of public sector and economic reform, including the country's Africa Strategy.

Prior to McKinsey, Degnarain worked in the Strategy Unit of the Office of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom under Tony Blair, as well as at World Bank and for the Government of Dubai.

He began his career as a journalist with the BBC.

Degnarain holds an MPA from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government in International Development and a degree in Economics and Geography from the University of Cambridge.
