Personal Life

As a child, Warhurst feared that her northern accent would thwart her dream of becoming a national broadcast journalist.
"I distinctly remember watching the national news every night when I was about five years old and thinking 'I'll never do that because of my accent,'" admitted Warhurst.[14]
Born in Sale, Greater Manchester and moving to Salford as a teenager, Warhurst went on to study broadcast journalism but was told she'd have to change her voice to be successful nationally:
“When I started out in journalism people said to me, ‘you’re going to have to change your vowels sounds, you’re going to have to improve your accent if you’re ever going to be on national news’, but I felt very strongly that I would never, ever do that, and I never have.”[14]
From the moment the BBC signaled its intention to move jobs to Salford, Warhurst said she began to dream of a career with the national broadcaster:
"The development at Salford Quays was unfolding before my eyes and I remember thinking, 'I hope I can get a job at the BBC'".[14]
"In fact, my Dad kept saving clippings from The Manchester Evening News reports on the relocation for me.
I remember him saying 'there's got to be a job for you there' and me replying – 'they'll never have me'".[14]
Nina is married to her husband, Ted, who is a caterer based in Manchester, England. The couple first met in Tisno, Croatia, in 2013. The couple married in 2014. They have two sons together.[15]
