Plot to Support ISIS
An undercover FBI agent posing as a United States Armed Forces reservist ambitious to join the terrorist group met with Nicholas on about 20 different occasions to discuss the chances of joining ISIS for the past several years. Nicholas was under surveillance by the FBI for 6 years.
On July 28, 2016, Young sent 22 sixteen digit gift card codes to the FBI undercover agent he thought was now a member of ISIS with a message that stated: “Respond to verify receipt... may not answer depending on when as this device will be destroyed after all are sent to prevent the data being possibly seen on this end in the case of something unfortunate.” The codes were ultimately redeemed by the FBI for $245.
The FBI and other undercover operatives were informed that Nicholas maintained several "burner phones", and would take out the battery of his cell phone during conversations to avoid detection. Authorities found several assault rifles and weapons, such as: an Egyptian AK-47, a Kimber 1911.45 caliber pistol, an AK-47 AMD rifle, a semiautomatic AK-47 RPK, an 8mm Mauser rifle, and a World War II-era Russian Nagant rifle. Authorities say that Nicholas was not a threat to the Metro Station.
