Nate Robinson is a former professional basketball player. Robinson played college basketball for the University of Washington in Seattle and was the 21st pick in the 2005 NBA draft. The 5-foot-9-inch point guard played in the NBA for the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Chicago Bulls, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, and New Orleans Pelicans. Robinson became the National Basketball Association's first three-time slam dunk champion in 2010.

Jake Paul is a YouTube personality, actor, and professional boxer. He initially rose to fame on the now-defunct video application Vine, before playing the role of Dirk Mann on the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark for two seasons. The match was Robinson's first pro match, while Paul was competing as a pro for the second time.

In July 2020, it was announced Jake Paul would facing Nate Robinson as part of the undercard for the Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. exhibition match. The event was initially scheduled for September 12th at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. However, in August 2020 Tyson revealed the event had been pushed back to November 28th in order to maximize pay per view revenue. Paul won the fight via ko at 1:24 in the second round. Robinson was knocked down three times in the match. He was heavily criticized on Black Twitter for his performance.
