Charli XCX and Nasty Cherry

Charli XCX is credited with putting the bandmates together to form Nasty Cherry. Debbie Knox-Hewson (who had previously been Charli's drummer) reflects on the idea of Nasty Cherry,[4]

"Charli mentioned to me ages ago—when I was playing in Charli’s band it was an all-girl band, and we’d always dreamed of putting together like… well, of being in the Spice Girls, basically, was a huge dream of mine.

Charli and I had all these references of what we thought was cool—like, The Craft and Heathers and Spice World and stuff like that.

I think she just thought ‘ Well, fuck it, I actually will just put a girl band together."

Charli has cowritten and collaborated with the band heavily.

She has also codirected the music video for Nasty Cherry's debut single, Win.

In November of 2019, Netflix released the reality show I'm With The Band. Like Puff Daddy's Making the Band, the show focuses on Charli XCX choosing four women to make a new pop/rock band to become Nasty Cherry. The show follows the group as they navigate the music scene in 2019.[11][28]

Charli on the bandmates:

"I feel like together they’re extremely unique.

They are funny and bold and have something interesting to say.

It feels weird and special."[2]
