On Saturday February 9, 2019, Griner was charged with first-degree murder , second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree desecration of human remains, and fourth-degree tampering with evidence.

Daniel Griner Jr.'s burned and dismembered remains were found at around 3:00 a.m., buried under a shed in the yard of Griner's home.

Griner initially reported that she was attacked the evening before while walking with Daniel Griner Jr. on the 200 block of Atlantic Street.
