Nader Al-Naji is an Entrepreneur and Software Engineer. He is the Founder of Basis which tried to develop a stable cryptocurrency with an algorithmic central bank. He is based in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Early Life and Education
Nader is originally from Alexandria, Virginia and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in 2010. He attended Princeton University where he was a member of the varsity rowing team and placed in the top two in two entrepreneurship competitions. During his senior year of college in 2012, Nader mined Bitcoin due to free electricity on campus, and was able to accumulate 22 Bitcoins from his dorm room operation. [1] He graduated summa cum laude in 2013, a year early, with a BSE in Computer Science and a minor in Applied and Computational Mathematics.
Career
Nader started his career as an Intern for D.E. Shaw and became an Associate shortly after graduating. He joined Google in October 2014 where he first worked on ads but was later moved to core search. Nader regained his interest in Bitcoin in 2016 when he noticed the value rising again. [1] In July 2017, he started working on Basecoin which later became Basis, a stable coin cryptocurrency project. Basis raised $133 million from institutional funds such as Bain Capital, Google Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, Polychain Capital, Stanley Druckenmiller, Pantera Capital, etc. [1] In 2018, Basis shut down the project due to regulatory concerns and returned funds to investors.
