Mystery Science
Mystery Science
Mystery Science is a company offering open-and-go lessons that inspire kids to love science.
[1]Their aim is to reach children before they've lost their natural curiosity about the world, and to inspire them to develop a scientific understanding of it.
They are reaching hundreds of thousands of children this school year by helping tens of thousands of elementary teachers to teach science.
They are backed by NewSchools, Learn Capital, 500 Startups, and numerous education Angel investors. [3]
"We’re answering every question children ask about the world.
Every child starts out fascinated by the world around them, but by middle school too many have lost this curiosity.
Mystery Science helps children to stay curious.
Our first product is a tool for teachers to use in the classroom.
It contains a full curriculum that makes it easy for elementary teachers without a science background to deliver incredible science lessons.
Rather than simply teaching dry vocabulary science, teachers guide students in re-creating the scientific discovery.
But then kids ask questions that teachers don’t know how to answer.
We’re building the ultimate tool that curious children are longing for."
Background
Mystery Science was started by two long-time friends, Doug Peltz and Keith Schacht. Doug was a master classroom teacher, a science department head, and the creator of an original science curriculum that made science the most popular subject at his school. Keith Schacht, the CEO, has started and sold three technology companies, was a product manager at Facebook, and a TED speaker. [3]
