My Dream Boat (1967 film)

My Dream Boat (船) is a 1967 Hong Kong drama film written and directed by Doe Ching. The film was produced by Runme Shaw for Shaw Brothers and is based on the novel by Chiung Yao.[1][2]

Plot

A complicated love triangle develops between a group of friends. Ke Shin and her fiancé Jia Wen are invited on a hunting trip by their friend Kei Yuan. Whilst on the trip, Ke Shin becomes attracted to Kei Yuan. Despite Kei Yuan's hesitation to get involved with her, she ends her engagement to Jia Wen. One of the hunting trip party, Shiang Yi, helps the depressed Jia Wen deal with the breakup.

Later, Ke Shin seeks out Kei Yuan, who has remained in the mountains.

She declares her love for him and they marry.

Jia Wen marries Shiang Yi, but he still loves Ke Shin deeply.

To take his mind off her, he turns to gambling.

Shiang Yi falls pregnant and one day, Ke Shin arrives unexpectedly to help her.

Meanwhile, Jia Wen's gambling problem gets worse and threatens to ruin his family life.

Production and release

My Dream Boat was filmed on 35mm color film with a mono audio soundtrack featuring Mandarin dialogue. The Shawscope cinematographic process was used in production and the film's total runtime is 125 minutes. My Dream Boat premiered on 28 September 1967 in Hong Kong.[1]
