Early Life and Education
A native of Pakistan, Ali earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics from Lahore University of Management Sciences in 2003. He then went on to pursue graduate studies at Princeton University, from which he obtained a Master of Arts in Computer science in 2011, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science in 2017. At Princeton, he was part of the Networks and Systems group and also worked with the PlanetLab team.
Career
Ali co-founded Blockstack with Ryan Shea in 2013 while enrolled at Princeton, and the company partook in the Y Combinator Summer 2014 cohort. To date Blockstack has raised USD 5.5 million in venture capital funding as well as USD 52.8 million in a token sale that concluded in December 2017.
Prior to founding Blockstack, Ali was an assistant in research at Princeton from 2008-2010.
He was part of the research staff at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) from 2006-2008. He was also previously a visiting researcher at Stanford University and the RISE SICS previously known as the Swedish Institute of Computer Science.
