Monica Piper is an Emmy-Award winning comedian, actress, and writer based in Santa Monica, California.
Life and Career
Piper, born May Lee Davis, grew up in New York City and attended Boston University. She was orginally a high school English teacher but quit her job to pursue comedy. She started performing stand-up in 1980 and moved to Los Angeles to further her career. She achieved success and had her own Showtime special "No, Monica, Just You" and was named one of the top five female comedians in America by the American Comedy Awards.
Piper has written for several TV shows including Roseanne, Mad About You, and Veronica's Closet. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Piper worked as a writer, producer, and story consultant for Rugrats, The Wild Thornberrys, and the Rugrats spin-off All Grown Up. She would become head writer for the Rugrats and would earn an Emmy in 2003 and an Emmy Nomination in 2004.
Monica wrote and performed the play "Not That Jewish" to wide acclaim.
Personal Life
Monica is divorved and has a teenage son.
She is a breast-cancer survivor and credits comedy for helping her recover.
