On January 22, 2017 at approximately 9:30 a.m., family members of 29-year-old Monica reported that they had not been in contact with her since the afternoon of Saturday January 21, 2017.

Lamping was last known to be with her 9-month-old daughter and her 7-year-old son, who are also missing.

Monica's house on Sullivan Boulevard in Virginia Beach, Virginia was set on fire in the morning of January 22, 2017. No one was at the home at the time, but her two pets had died in the fire which was caused a space heater. ^{[2] [5]}

Monica's 2002 Jeep Cherokee with tags XPU-6357 was tracked going through the Portsmouth Downtown Tunnel, westbound on I-264. Police confirmed that Monica's license plate was also caught on camera. ^{[2] [5]}
