Biography
Early Life
Born in Saudi Arabia and raised in Flint, Michigan and ever since she was a child she practiced Poetry. Her parents are from Damascus, Syria who were newlyweds in the United States and settled in Michigan. Her father became burned out by work and decided to move to Saudi Arabia which is where she was born. When the Gulf War broke out her family decided to return to the United States.
As soon as she began to learn to write, it is said that she started to write her poetry.
One of her first poems when she was in kindergarten was, “I am mood.
I am dude.
I am Mona.”
She was raised in a Muslim family who allowed her to explore different avenues before she made the choice as a young teenager. Before the summer of seventh grade, as she was riding her bike she felt her hair flying in the wind and at that moment realized that she wanted to cover it. When she told her parents, who said they would support her in whatever she chooses to do, she made her choice and a big party was thrown for her.
Education
She graduated from the University of Michigan and lived in Damascus for some time where she studied Arabic and Islamic spirituality.

Rap
Ever since she was a little girl, she had an interest in Poetry, and later life she would use her talent as a poet to record rap songs.
"Hijabi (Wrap my Hijab)"
One of her first songs is "Hijabi (Wrap my Hijab)" - recorded in 2017 and later made into a music video released April the same year. The video has received millions of views around the internet. The song addresses racist stereotypes related to Muslim women and women of color.
"Dog" (Featuring Jackie Chan)
In July 17th, 2017, Mona released a music video for the song, "Dog" which features Dominican American actress, Jackie Cruz. The song has messages against Domestic violence and Sexual abuse against women.
Personal Life
She lives in the Redwood forest of Northern California with her husband and son. [1]
She practices a life of sacred activism, poetry, contemplation and advocacy for living gently upon the Earth.
She teaches classes, gives lectures, leads retreats and workshops, does readings and performs her work.
She is a rapper, poet, activist, practitioner of Permaculture, meditator, composting devotee, mountain girl, solar power lover and a tireless God-enthusiast.
