Mohammed Jamal Amin, better known by his original name, "Mohamad Jamal Khweis," is a 27-year-old Virginia-born American citizen who left Alexandria, Virginia to fight for the Islamic State in January 2016.

Amin had been fighting with ISIS for 2-3 months.

Amin's father is Palestinian and his mother is from Mosul, Iraq.

On March 14th, 2016, Kurdish Peshmerga military force's reported that they had captured an American ISIS defector-later identified as Amin- at a front-line position near Sinjar, which Kurdish forces from the Islamic State, Amin was reportedly attempting to make his way back to Turkey.

Amin was initially believed to be a suicide bomber and had warning shots fired at him.

however, he later identified himself as former militant with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) who wished to turn himself in, Amin was found with a number of cell phones, a large amount of Turkish money and multiple ID cards.

Amin is currently being held for interrogation in Erbil, Iraq.
