Mohammad Alaa Jaleel is a Paramedic that operates an ambulance and provides first aid and transports injured people. ^[undefined] He also protects hundreds of cats in the war-torn city of Aleppo, Syria in a rescue location he calls "la casa dei gatti Ernesto". There are more than 170 cats and few dogs at the shelter. ^[1] Alaa has friends from all over the world: Europe, Australia, United States, Israel and so on - all united to help him in his great mission of helping people in need, widows, children and helpless animals. ^[undefined]

Many residents of Aleppo evacuated due to the civil war that's taken place in the country, and left Jaleel, a man who takes care of animals, with their cats that could not be taken along with them on their travels.

He risks his life each day to take care of the cats by providing them with a sanctuary, food, and love.

For Alaa Jaleel, the cats have become his only friends since most of the companions that he has known have passed away due to the war, or have left Aleppo to escape the war.

Jaleel says: “Someone who has mercy in their heart for people has mercy for every living thing... I said I’ll stay with them no matter what happens.”

A little girl who moved to Turkey with her family left her cat with Jaleel, and continues to communicate with him about her cat that she loves very much. Jaleel says: "She cried as she handed it over to me and they left the country." He sends her photos of the cat and updates. ^[1]

Nobel Peace Prize

The city of Segrate in Milan, Italy has officially launched the candidacy of Alaa for the Nobel Peace Prize and have sent the proposal to the Nobel Prize office. ^[undefined]
