Biography
Mihajlo Kostić was born in Prokuplje. His father Nestor "Nego" Kostić was theatre enthusiast who had built town's first theatre house. In 1940 his mother died, while his father disappeared after being taken to German camp during World War II. Having lived among relatives, he went to Belgrade by himself at age of 14. After finishing Shipbuilding School, he enrolled to Theatre Academy. After graduation he was drafted for a year one year service in Yugoslav People's Army.
After return to civillian life he began to work in Yugoslav Drama Theatre in Belgrade. His screen debut was small role in 1957 anthology film Subotom uveče. First noticable role was Mladen, protagonist's friend in 1960 film The Ninth Circle. This was followed with the series of prominent roles in films, while in 1978 he appeared as Pavle in popular Povratak otpisanih TV series.
In 1978 Mihajlo Kostić married Gordana, foreign language teacher who was twenty years his junior.
The couple had son Vuk Kostić, who later became prominent actor.
