On Wednesday March 28, 2018, Krek was shot and killed by Rizk in a murder-suicide inside their Southpointe Town Center apartment.

Krek was shot in the back and in the head, while Rizk had a single gunshot wound to the head.

A 9mm handgun was found, and a bullet was recovered in the neighbor's apartment.
