Michael Terpin is a serial entrepreneur who has founded leading companies in public relations, internet marketing, digital innovation, cryptocurrency, and newswire distribution. He is well known for his current role as the Founder and CEO of Transform PR, the world leader in blockchain and Initial Coin Offering (ICO) PR and advisory services which has represented more than 40 ICOs. Terpin is also known for co-founding Marketwired the first Internet-based company newswire, which was acquired for over $35 million in 2006.

Education

Michael Terpin holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from SUNY at Buffalo and a dual bachelor degree in Newspaper journalism and English literature from Syracuse University. He serves as an advisor to SU’s Newhouse School of Public Communications, where he was inducted into its prestigious “Wall of Fame” in October 2000.

Career

Terpin Communications Inc.

Michael Terpin has been the CEO of Terpin Communications (previously The Terpin Group, prior to 2001 sale to Morgen-Walke/Lighthouse, now Financial Dynamics) since January, 1990.

The company was one of the first PR firms to specialize in new media and technological convergence PR, going back to the earliest days of multimedia and the Web. The firm's earliest success stories included the launch of the Motley Fool, America Online Greenhouse and EarthLink, which only had three employees at the time.

The firm later pivoted to become a PR firm specializing in emerging technologies and market entry, with a solid portfolio of Web 2.0 and enterprise software clients. The company is interested in finding the next AOL s and EarthLink s and helping them scale which sometimes involves Terpin investing in them, typically in the form of a bridge loan for services. Terpin Communications was featured in an Inc. magazine cover story for this successful strategy. Terpin Communications, Inc., later became a sister holding company alongside Transform Group, which is Michael Terpin's primary brand.

Marketwired

In 1994, Michel Terpin founded Internet Wire now known as Marketwired the first Internet-based company newswire. Terpin's inspiration for creating the world's first Internet-based press releases network was the number of complaints he received from journalists who would have to retype press releases faxed to them by the incumbent press release newswires of the day, which were only real-time and marginally digital if you were a member of the Associated Press, which meant that most trade publications got faxes instead.

He later spun off the company in 1999 and raised $18 million from top-tier investors including Hummer Winblad and Sequoia Capital. In 18 months, the company's revenues had grown by more than 4,000 percent and the team had grown to 135 people. Following a strategic investment by NASDAQ in 2003, the company became Market Wire (now Marketwired). They sold the firm to CCN/Matthews the premier company newswire and media directory in Canada in April, 2006 for $35 million, which in turn was sold to OMERS Capital Partners in December, 2006, for more than $100 million. Marketwired was the sold to the NASDAQ in February, 2016.
