Michael Parros was a 2nd Lieutenant in the 199th Infantry Brigade.
Michael graduated from the United States Military Academy - West Point in June, 2016. Michael is originally from Walnut Creek, California. [undefined]
A month after Michael graduated he started training at Ranger School at Fort Benning near Columbus, Georgia. He planned to attend the Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course after completing Ranger School. [undefined]
At West Point, Michael played football, hockey and soccer. Parros was listed in the 2013 and 2014 Army West Point football media guides as a wide receiver. [undefined]
Michael attended De La Salle High School De La Salle High School in Concord, California. He graduated from the school high honors in 2012. While at De La Salle High School, Michael played for the school's Spartans' varsity football team from 2010-11, serving as a backup quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back. He completed six of nine passes for 74 yards during his junior season. [undefined]
Death
Michael got sick during his first day of Ranger School on Monday July 18, 2016 and died Wednesday July 20, 2016 at a hospital near Fort Benning. [undefined]
Michael was treated at Midtown Medical Center for hyponatremia, a condition caused by a lack of sodium in the blood.
The condition can be caused by drinking too much water during endurance sports as well as underlying medical problems, among other causes.
Lt. Col. Matthew Weber, commander of 2nd Battalion, 11th Infantry Regiment, said
"This is a tragic loss," and that "While 2nd Lt. Parros was only with us for a short time, he showed so much potential and was the epitome of the kind of soldier you want to serve with.
We are truly saddened to lose a member of our Army family.
