Michael Egorov
Michael Egorov is a Russian Software Engineer and the co-founder and Chief technology officer of ZeroDB. [1] He was previously the senior Software Engineer at LinkedIn. He is the founder and current Chief Executive Officer of Curve Finance.[3][8][10]
Background
In 2008, Egorov graduated form the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in Moscow, Russia. The same year, he left his position as a software engineer at VGTRK in August to work at Netagi in Melbourne, Australia in November. He left in July 2009 to work at WorkLifeGroup as a software engineer, until August 2010, before returning to university in Melbourne.[3]
Since 2014, Egorov graduated from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. The same year, he became a senior software engineer at LinkedIn, before moving on to found NuCypher in June of 2016, with Y Combinator. From March 2015 to June 2020, he was Chief Technology Officer before founding Curve Finance, where he currently sits as Chief Executive Officer of the company.[3]
Curve Controversy
On August 23, 2020, Egorov had acquired 71% of Curve DAO voting power for himself.
This became a cause for controversy, as many of the rewards earned from holding the company's CRV governance token are given to founders who hold CRV, compared to liquidity providers and other voters who are not founders.
Egorov addressed the concerns on Telegram, explaining that this decision was made as a way to outweigh yEarn, another company with its own token. He admitted that the move was an overreaction. He also added that he does not truly want to posses as much power as he has right now, and hopes that his voting power would gradually diminish over time as the overall system shifts towards decentralization. Andre Cronjke, yEarn's founder, calculated that in order for his voting power to fall to 50%, 150 CRV would have to be added to the token's circulating supply. In contrast, the Curve team believes that Egorov's voting power would actually decrease within days of this action.[9]
