Melissa Broder

Melissa is a poet and essayist from Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania who got her B.A. at Tufts University and her M.F.A. at CCNY.

Career and Social Media Prominence

Between 2012-2015 Melissa was the anonymous voice behind @SoSadToday, a twitter account of a young woman with anxiety and depression who put a humorist twist on her mental state.

She came out as the person behind the account in a Rolling Stone interview. Today, @SoSadToday has over 380,000 followers. [1]

Melissa has published several collections of her poems, including When You Say One Thing but Mean Your Mother (2010), Scarecrone (2014), and Last Sext (2016), and the essay collection So Sad Today (2016), based on her posts on Twitter.

Melissa has served as director of media and special projects at NewHive, a publicist for Penguin, editor in chief for La Petite Zine, and organizer of the Polestar Poetry Series. She has also written for The Huffington Post.
