Mayu Tomita is a Japanese pop star and song writer from the group AKB48.

Tomohiro Iwazaki

On May 21, 2016 around 5:00 p.m. Tomohiro Iwazaki stabbed the 20 year old Japanese pop star over 20 times to the chest and neck while she was waiting to perform at a venue in Japan.

Tomita had recently filed complaints against Iwazaki, she told police a man had been persistently contacting her on social media.

Tomita is now in critical condition.
