Mattson 2 is an American Instrumental Jazz and Shoegaze band from San Diego, California who formed some time in the 2000s.

^[1]They are known for their extensive collaborations with an array of musicians of different background over the years.

They provide a mature sound that is equally at home on the beach as it is in the jazz club.

The band consists of twin brothers Jonathan and Jared who have been playing together since they were teenagers.

The band's releases date back to the year 2007 when they collaborated with renowned Skateboarder, Ray Barbee.

Since that time, they have experimented with different genres that bring together a classic Rock and roll feel to their hard hitting and smooth Jazz rhythms.

After years of playing many shows and releasing music, the due harnessed a their own particular blend of Art rock Psychedelia and Jazz.

In 2009 they released their second album titled, Introducing The Mattson 2.

Two years later, they released their third album, Feeling Hands. They have since released Agar (2014), Chocolat & Akito meets The Mattson 2 (2016),andToro y Moi Meets The Mattson 2 ‎– Star Stuff (2017). ^[17]

The twins have acquired a pair of Bachelor’s degrees in music with an emphasis in Jazz and African studies from the University of California San Diego, and even more recently received their Masters of Fine Arts degrees in Music from University of California Irvine.

At UC Irvine, they were a part of the Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology program (ICIT).

Having performed with the likes of Ray Barbee, Tommy Guerrero, Money Mark, John McEntire, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Cornelius, Farmer Dave Scher, Dave Pike, Jeff Parker, Mark Dresser, Nicole Mitchell, Anthony Davis, and George Lewis.

These collaborations has allowed the Mattson 2 grow as musicians.
