Matthew Marroki-Yaldo was a 17-year-old from Sterling Heights, Michigan. ^[2]

Matthew grew up in Sterling Heights.

Matthew has traveled internationally in the past and has been to Spain. ^[11]In his free time, Matthew enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He is remembered for his intelligence, sense of humor, and for his kindness towards others. ^[4]

During the early morning of April 28th around 3 am, a fire started at Matthew's home located on the

42000 block of Bloomingdale Drive, southwest of 19 Mile and Ryan Road.

The fire started on the first floor directly under Matthew's bedroom.

^[2]Firefighters were able to use a ladder to retrieve him from his bedroom.

He was taken to a local area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Matthew's two older siblings escaped; his 19-year-old sister jumped out a second story window.

^[9]His 20-year-old brother is currently in custody by police who believe he may be responsible for the arson event.

^[9]Matthew's parents escaped but were treated for smoke inhalation.
