Matthew Luckett

Matthew Luckett is an investor who is the Managing Partner at ALBA Holdings, a family office located in New York City. Luckett has direct experience in hedge funds, venture capital, private equity, and real estate.

Early Life and Education

Luckett is originally from Kentucky and graduated from Saint Xavier High School. [1] He attended Georgetown University where studied Japanese and American Studies. An active student, Luckett was a member of the Varsity Soccer team, on the College Academic Counsel, and was a Baker Scholar. He earned his BA in 1994.

Career

Early in his career, Luckett was a Research Analyst at the Gartner Group, a Senior Research Analyst at the SoundView Technology Group, and VP of Corporate Development at Phonetic Systems.

While at the Gartner Group he helped launch two multi-million dollar research practices, advising Fortune 500 enterprises on software licensing and pricing, as well as researching emerging trends in enterprise software and data analytics. During his time working for at SoundView Technolgy, Luckett was named “Best on the Street” research analyst team by the Wall Street Journal in 2000.

In 2004, Luckett joined Balestra Capital Partners, a global macro hedge fund, where he started as a Co-Portfolio Manager and would serve on the investment committee of Balestra Spectrum Partners, the firm’s fund of funds.

Luckett became a General Partner at the fund and was responsible for portfolio strategy, macro-economic research and idea generation and portfolio risk supervision.

During his tenure, Balestra Capital was ranked as one of the best performing macro funds in the world with average rates of return in excess of twenty percent per annum.

Luckett left the fund in 2014.

Luckett has been a Managing Partner at ALBA Holdings since 2014.

A family officer, ALBA Holdings focuses on private investments across all asset classes.

Luckett's notable exits include ideeli, Spongecell, PureWow, Practice, and Business Insider.
