Officer Matthew Baxter was a three year veteran of the Kissimmee Police force.

On August 19, 2017 Officer Matthew Baxter was fatally shot in the 2017 Kissimmee, Florida Shooting of Police Officers. A second officer, Sgt. Sam Howard, was also shot and is in grave condition. "His prognosis does not look good," Kissimmee Police Chief Jeff O'Dell said.

A massive manhunt is underway for at least one suspect.

The shooting occurred as the two officers were responding to a call at the intersection of Palmway and Cypress streets, shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday.
