Martina Mlinarević
Martina Mlinarević
She was born in Ljubuški, in what she later described as "modest Christian family". She graduated English language at University of Mostar and later ran foreign language school in Široki Brijeg. She began writing from her early days and published her first articles in student newspapers. She worked part-time at Radio Ljubuški and later was correnspondent of Dnevni list for West Herzegovina Canton. Later she began writing for news portals like poskok.info (under pen name Oldskul), buka.ba and index.hr.
Her writing, which was especially critical towards her native region and its politics, dominated by Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), often caused strong reaction. In 2013, following her articles about Dragan Čović, HDZ leader, she announced that she won't cover current events in her writings. In 2019 she was denied entry to Čitluk literary festival and her books were removed from bookstores in her native West Herzegovina.
In August 2017 Martina Mlinarević was diagnosed with breast cancer, on the very same day she had finished her divorce proceedings. The experience inspired her book Huzur. [2]
