Margana Wood is an event planner and current Miss America contestant representing the state of Texas.
Biography
Early Life
While in Middle School and High School Margana would often get bullied.
Education
While attending college, she was still involved with the Miss Texas Organization which gave he an educational scholarship for winning the beauty contest.
She was a part of Zeta Tau Alpha (Kappa Chapter).
Career
Beauty Pageants
Margana has been involved in the circuit of beauty pageants in the state of Texas since she was a teenager.
Miss Texas 2017
In 2017, she was crowned Miss Texas.
She has since been committed to the work and obligations of the contestant.
She works with agencies that provide services for children, families, the elderly, veterans, and the homeless.
Margana has been granted the opportunity to work with organizations such as Special Olympics, GiRL Power of the Laura Bush Foundation, Susan G. Komen, The Little Words Project, and others.
Additionally, The Miss America Organization also has an established partnership with Children’s Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization that saves and improves the lives of children.
National, state, and local titleholders are able to visit Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.
Miss America 2018
After winning the Miss Texas 2017, she was automatically involved in the Miss America pageant for 2018.
She represents the state of Texas.
Amidst the unfolding of Hurricane Harvey and the Texas floods, she felt obliged to ensure her participation in the contest would be a memorable one. On September 7th, 2017, she won the preliminary round after winning the swimsuit competition.
Personal Life
Hurricane Harvey
Margana had bought tickets for a Coldplay concert in Houston that she had planned to attend for a very long time. Due to Hurricane Harvey, the concert was postponed. Had she gone she would not have been able to make it out as the floods in Houston began the following day the concert would've happened.
Anti-Bullying
Margana has been a committed activist against bullying and has started a campaign through a public platform she was asked to created during her time with the Miss America Organization.
She decided to start "Nice Girls Rule" as an anti-bullying campaign.
The campaign aims to educate young girls about the hidden forms of bullying.
She also started another campaign called, "You Belong".
