Maren Nicole Oates also known as Maren Gunsalus is a teacher based out of Reno, Nevada. In May 2018 she was arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student. ^[1]

Maren Oates is originally from Aurora, Colorado and graduated from Smoky Hill High School in 2002.

Maren Oates graduated from the University of Nevada with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. She then graduated from the University of Nevada with a master's degree in Secondary Education. She is also a class of 2018, PhD student in Educational Leadership/Administration at the University of Nevada.

Maren Oates is an avid runner who has participated in half marathons and the Tough Mudder adventure run. She also enjoys hiking, reading, and watching sports.

Maren Oates is a teacher at the Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology, a high school in Reno, Nevada which is part of the Washoe County School District. The school has a five star rating from the district and achieved a 100% graduation rate in 2013 and 2017. Oates taught courses in graphic design, animation, and student leadership at the school.

Oates has also worked for as a distributor for SeneGence International, a network marketing company. She previously worked as a Producer for Comstock Insurance Agencies in Reno.

On Thursday, May 17, 2018 Washoe County School Police arrested Maren Oates.

She was booked into Washoe County Jail on the charge of School Employee Engaged in Sex with a Pupil and held on $20,000 bail. Oates was also placed on administrative leave after the arrest. ^[1]

A statement from the Washoe County School District says ^[1]:

"Washoe County School Police are investigating allegations that a District employee engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a student.

The employee in question has been placed on administrative leave."
