On Monday, December 25, 2017, Tritton was killed on her way to Christmas lunch when a black BMW sedan heading in the opposite direction allegedly crossed a ­median strip, hit a tree and slammed into her family’s car in Brisbane’s east side. ^{[5] [4] [1]}

Police who attended the crash at about 11: 15 a.m. local time, described the scene as one of the most traumatizing they had seen.

Makayla’s mother was taken to a hospital in an ambulance but died from her.
