Maisey Rika, Award-winning musician popular for her eclectic mix of folk, acoustic, soul, and easy listening. Her breakthrough album, "E Hine," consisted of Maori traditional songs and achieved double platinum status. The album also won the prize for Best Maori Language Album at the New Zealand Music Awards. She performed at the Giant Rugby Ball in Tokyo, Japan in October 2009, an event designed to promote the 2011 Rugby World Cup. She was of Ngati Awa, Te Arawa, Tuhoe, and Te Wh�nau-�-Apanui ancestry. Her mother, Rebecca "Honey" Rika, was a singer who greatly encouraged her daughter's talents at an early age. She has been compared to Sade, India Arie, and Tracy Chapman. ^[1]
