Madison Taylor Baez was born and raised in Orange County, California, United States.

Madison has been singing before she could speak her first words.

She sings with a powerful and soulful voice which has never before seen in such a young child.

At the age of 3 years old, her father introduced her to music and Madison began learning to play piano and developing her big and soulful voice singing and memorizing 100’s of songs by shuffling through her father’s iTunes.

She would sing songs all day long every day anywhere and for anyone who would listen.

Songs from Motown, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, to the most chart hopping songs of today Bruno Mars, Meghan Trainor, Charlie Puth and Shawn Mendes is among her favorites. It was also at that time her father bought her a small pink electronic play piano for Christmas.

After about a week of her banging on the keys and making noise, her father and mother started hearing actual notes and music being played from her play room.

"My wife and I heard the toy piano playing in the other room and we both stopped and looked at each other with shock!!

We then went into her play room and there she was playing her little electronic toy piano.

We were even more stunned of how she was sitting, positioning her hands and playing with her fingers".

Said her father.

From that day on there was no more noise coming from banging on the play piano.

Her parents shortly after bought a baby grand piano for the home and Madison took it from there by teaching herself to play and read sheet music

VOICE OF A CURE

A few months before Madison 4th birthday, she had a life changing event which was a dramatic impact and which defined the development of her singing voice.

Her father who introduced her to music was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer and it was a devastating moment for Madison and the entire family. She watched her father endure the struggles of battling cancer for the last 6 years and the toll it has taken on him and the family.

Early on in her father’s battle with Cancer, Madison at 3 years old realized that her singing would be the best treatment not only for her father but for the family. She sang to him in the hospital at his bedside throughout his many hospital stays and 2 years of Chemo treatments. She was always by his side with a song while recovery at home from 5 major surgeries over the last 6 years.

Madison’s singing voice was developed from the pain of watching her father fight cancer to the joy of seeing her father heal and get better from her singing.

(Madison’s father is alive today, cancer free and he is thriving watching Madison now give her voice to the healing of others. If you ask Madison father, he will tell you that it was Madison’s voice that was the cure and it gave him strength every day not to give in to the disease and it was the cure that gave him his life back along with the love of his family that has triumphed them through it all. To this day his survival has baffled doctors and defied the odds. )[6]

Interview with HOLA! US

“Selena and I actually have a lot of things in common,”

she tells HOLA! USA.[3]

“We started singing Spanish at the same age.

We started learning it and both of our dads are musicians.”

HOLA! USA: When and how did you get your start performing?

Madison Taylor Baez: “I started singing when I was two years old.

My dad introduced me to music, and I would sing along with him.

When I was three, I would sneak into his iTunes and listen to all of his Motown music, and I never stopped singing from there.”

You have been performing for most of your life, how did you get over your initial nerves?

“When I first started singing, I was very nervous because it was my first time.

I realized once I got the microphone in my hand, I was like, ‘wait a second, I‘ve got this.

Let’s do this Madison.

You’re going to kill it.

Come on, let’s do this.’”

Now, you’re portraying a legend on screen. What was your reaction to landing the role?

“When I got the audition I was actually really, really happy because I got to mix my singing and my acting together.

When I got the news, I was actually at a soccer practice, and my dad was coaching.

My mom kept on texting him and calling him.

My dad finally picked up the phone and yelled out, ‘Holy!’”

Were you a fan of Selena and her music before the role?

“When we got the audition, I didn’t really know much about Selena, but my mom and dad were huge fans.

They told me all about her, and I researched her.

I looked at all of her YouTube videos; I watched young Selena and adult Selena, and I fell in love with her music.”

Now that you’re a fan, do you have a favorite song

“Como la Flor and Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.

I’ve never sang in Spanish, but I really ended up enjoying it.”

Were you and the other actors able to form a bond?

“When I got to set, I actually didn’t think we would interact as much as we actually did, but it really felt like we were all a family.”

Christian looks so much like Selena? Were you shocked to her in action?

“Yeah!

When I saw them compared, I was like, ‘Wait, which one is Christian and which one is the Selena?’”

Are you able to juggle school and work? Is it a little challenging at times?

“When I’m not singing, I’m acting, and when I’m not acting, I’m singing.

My private school is really good with all of my acting and singing.

They really like all of this so they agreed to give me all my homework and all my tests so I could take them on the go.”

Do you have a favorite subject?

“I actually really like math, and if lunch is a subject, I really like lunch.”

Aside from singing, acting and soccer, are you learning anything else?

“Yes!

I play the piano, guitar, electric guitar, the ukulele, a little bit of the violin, and I just jumped into the saxophone.”

In two years, things have really taken off for you. In another five years, where do you see yourself and your career?

“I see myself on a bigger stage and concerts!”

Look for Madison when Selena premieres on Netflix later this year.
