Career
Barclay was first hired as a substitute teacher in the fall semester of 2016, and in November, she was hired as a paraprofessional. She began her teacher assistant role in January 2017, and was relieved of her duties on April 27, 2017.
Arrest
On June 25, 2017, Barclay was arrested and charged after having sexual intercourse sexual contact with a 17-year-old male student. [1]
She faces charges in two counties as a result of the alleged relationship with the 17-year-old boy while she worked at Monett High School between November 2016 and January 2017.
An internal investigation revealed that Barclay admitted to performing oral sex on the boy in a car at a park located in Lawrence County. [1] She also admitted she had sexual intercourse with the teen at the boy's home in Barry County. [1]
A judge set Barclay's bond at $25,000, which she posted on the morning of June 26, 2017, after her first court appearance in Mount Vernon. Her next court appearance in Lawrence County is scheduled for July 24, 2017. She has not yet appeared in court in Barry County, where her bond is set at $10,000. [1]
Sentence
In February 2020, Barclay pleaded guilty to harassment against a person younger than 17 years old, a class D felony.
She was sentenced to three years in prison, suspended in lieu of five years supervised probation, handed down by a special judge in the case, Jasper County Judge David B. Mouton.[14]
Per the plea agreement, Barclay, who now lives in Purcell, Oklahoma, is required to comply with sex offender registration while on supervised probation, required to be supervised per the discretionary sex offender program and is prohibited from having any contact with the victim or victim’s family. [14]
The state also agreed to dismiss the Lawrence County case against Barclay.
Originally, she was charged with four counts of sexual contact with a student by a teacher, two each in Barry and Lawrence counties.[14]
