Lili started out as an Associate in the Investment Partnership Group at Genesis Merchant Group/Seneca Capital. Her duties included research, analysis and reporting for several investment funds. She also provided quarterly research reports for AEOW, a $50 million private equity fund focused on biotechnology, consumer goods, and technology companies.
Balfour spent the next two years as an Analyst in the Technology M&A Group at SVB Alliant where she performed extensive research to determine potential acquirers and rationale for acquisitions. She then set out as a Financial Analyst at Heller Ehrman Venture Law Group where she built and managed the due diligence process for client intake in United States, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Singapore offices.
After that she spent a short four months as an Investment Banking Consultant for Edison Group/Cambrian Partners where she performed financial due diligence on the potential acquisition of Edison Group/Cisco Systems. She then became an Associate in the Investment Banking Group sector of Cain Brothers where she advised companies on financing options.
In 2007 Lili founded Atelier Advisors where she brings CFO capabilities to early stage startups. In their 10+ years of service they've advised over 100 startups on capital raising and M&A strategy.
In 2013 she started blogging for The Huffington Post, eventally becoming an on-air contributor for HuffPost Live. This led to Balfour becoming a contributor to the Fox Business Network. She also became a Guest Mentor at The Wall Street Journal where she contributed to The Accelerators, a weekly discussion about startups and entrepreneurship. Shortly afterwards she began lending her expertise to Entrepreneur Magazine as a contributor. Finally she began developing her own media presence as the creator and host of Finance For Entrepreneurs, where she's helped over 10,000 students wrap their head around finances.  [+]
