Lee McCollum Jr

Lee McCollum Jr, a Fenger Academy High School graduate who talked about his struggle to escape gun violence in the CNN documentary series "Chicagoland" was killed on May 12, 2016.

Lee McCollum Jr., part of "Chicagoland's" look at Fenger, McCollum was featured in episodes of the eight-part series that ran in 2014 on CNN.

The show and other news reports have pointed to McCollum as someone who stayed in school and moved away from gangs.

Death

On May 12th, Lee McCollum Jr., 22, was found unresponsive on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday in the 500 block of West 126th Street, part of the West Pullman neighborhood, said Chicago, Illinois police spokeswoman Laura Amezaga.

Though she wouldn't officially release McCollum's name, she said he was a documented gang member.
