On September 4, 2017, Mathuloe was found dead at Pecanwood Estate in Hartbeespoort, North West. ^[5]She apparently died from self-inflicted stab wounds. ^{[17] [5] [19]}

Mathuloe was certified dead by a doctor at the golf course in the estate at around 6:30 a.m. local time.

A picture circulating of Mathuloe appeared to have been taken with PSL coach Gavin Hunt, and this led many to believe Hunt was the man who allegedly killed her at the exclusive Pecanwood Estate in Hartbeespoort. ^{[17] [5]}

Authorities have no official suspects at the time and the investigation ongoing.
